Ngwenani Young Chiefs were crowned champions of the Zwonaka Zwa Hamakhale Soccer Tournament at the Tshivhilwi Tshiberetheni Grounds last Sunday, beating Vondwe XI Bullets 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw during regulation time.
Tshililo Khavhatondwi, Ndivho Ramagalela, Thapelo Mosesi, Fhulufhelo Lifamisa and Thendo Mathobo converted for Young Chiefs, while Vhugala Makhuvha, Khathutshelo Madzhuta and Freddy Ramafamba scored for the Bullets. Young Chiefs played much of the second half with 10 men after Ndaedzo Netshivhongweni was shown a red card for dangerous play.
The champions received R20,000, a floating trophy, a soccer kit, gold medals and a soccer ball during a ceremony at the Lutande Eating House after the game. They had reached the final by beating SMSA FC 5-4 in their semi-final earlier that day at the same venue.
Vondwe XI Bullets went home with R10,000, silver medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball after overcoming LG Discovery FC 2-0 in their semi-final. Third-placed SMSA FC received R4,000 and a soccer ball, while LG Discovery took fourth prize of R3,000 and a soccer ball. Quarterfinalists Mukula Young Santos, Rambuda Young Fighters, FC Basel and Madridtas FC each received a consolation prize of R1,000.
