The Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, will visit the scene of a horrific bus accident that claimed the lives of 19 people yesterday afternoon, on 17 September.
According to the department, the accident occurred at about 16:00 approximately 25km from Musina on the R572 road when a Murray & Roberts bus, transporting mine workers to Venetia Mine, was involved in a head-on collision with a truck. "The two vehicles caught fire, and preliminary reports from emergency services indicate that eighteen of the Group's employees, along with the driver of the other vehicle, tragically lost their lives, while four others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital," said Murray & Roberts Holdings Limited in a press release on Monday.
Radzilani will be accompanied by the Mayor of Musina, Cllr Godfrey Mawela, and members of Venetia Mine's senior management. The MEC will use this visit to gather information about the accident and pay a courtesy visit to the patients in the hospital.
"We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives, those who are injured, and anyone impacted by this tragic accident. Our focus is on providing necessary support to our employees and their families during this very difficult time. The incident is currently under investigation, and further details will be provided at a later stage," said Murray & Roberts.
