The ninth annual Top-16 Mabena Soccer Challenge was launched in Mashamba on Saturday, 9 September. All matches will be played at the Mashamba Sports Grounds on 16 and 17 September, followed by the final match on 24 September.
Ms Mercy Rambau, the secretary of the organising committee, emphasised that sport can foster a positive relationship between the business sector and the community. She commended the sponsors for their role in recognising the potential within the region's youth. "Despite the difficult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared to share their takings and support sport," she said.
The fixture for Saturday (16th) is as follows: Sambandou United Professional vs Bokisi Scientists at 08:00; Mashamba Benfica vs Masakona Young Tigers at 10:00, Team Swiswi vs Tshivhuyuni Two 4 Joy at 12:00, and Magau United vs Mukondeni Shooting Stars at 14:00.
The fixtures for Sunday (17th) are as follows: Dipeni FC vs Madadzhi Eversmilling at 08:00; Madridtas FC vs Mukondeni Young Chiefs at 10h:00; Makhitha Oscar vs Muwaweni Lucky Star at 12:00, and Mashamba Soccer vs Malumash FC at 14:00.
The champions will receive R30,000, two soccer kits, gold medals and a trophy, while the runners-up will go home with R20,000, two soccer kits and silver medals. The third-placed side will receive R10,000, bronze medals and a soccer kit, and the fourth-placed team will receive R5,000 and a soccer kit.
