The suspects accused of murdering Glen Nkuna have abandoned their bail applications and will remain in custody.
The four accused appeared briefly in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 April. After withdrawing their bail applications, the matter was postponed to 27 May.
Those appearing in court are Silence Madima (22), Pfano Mukwevho (19), Rofhiwa Tshisema (19) and Clifford Munungufhala (19). Two additional accused, aged 16 and 17, cannot be named because they are minors.
The case relates to the killing of Nkuna (38), whose body was found near the gate of Elim Hospital in the early hours of 8 March.
The accused were asked, one by one, whether they wanted to apply for bail, and all declined. Nkuna’s younger brother, Wisani, said the family is “happy with the decision taken by the suspects”.
One of the minors is also a suspect in the killing of Tivani Maluleke. Maluleke’s body was discovered on Saturday, 7 February, at about 06:45 in Mahonisi village near Elim. He was later identified as a resident of Mbhokota village. At the time of his death, he was renting in Mahonisi and working at Rivoni School for the Blind.
No bail arguments were presented after the accused withdrew their applications. All the accused remain in custody as investigations continue.
