Nkuna takes Miss Waterval 2018 crown

A 17-year-old Grade 12 pupil of Hoërskool Louis Trichardt was crowned Miss Waterval 2018 during a ceremony at a packed Waterval Community Hall on Saturday.

A 17-year-old Grade 12 pupil of Hoërskool Louis Trichardt was crowned Miss Waterval 2018 during a ceremony at a packed Waterval Community Hall on Saturday.

She was ecstatic when she was announced as the winner. She received a bursary from Avuxeni Computer College, R1 500 of Shoprite-Checkers vouchers and clothes from Shi-Something design.

Nkanelo Mabunda (19) is the first princess. She received a bursary from Avuxeni Computer College and R500. Phindulo Mphilo (17), the second princess, received a bursary from Avuxeni Computer College and R300.

The Miss Waterval Organisation is a non-profit organization that aims to empower the youth to focus on their dreams. "We aim to empower the youth and encourage them not to expose themselves to drugs and become pregnant. We also educate the youth about child abuse, HIV/Aids and other social issues," said Ms Takalani Masuluke the event organiser.

Miss Waterval was initiated in 2016. It caters for juniors between the ages of 7 and 10 and seniors between 16 and 27.
