Teams affiliated to the MMK Funeral Services Soccer League will be out of action for the next five weeks. This was announced during the clubs' general meeting which was held at the Thohoyandou library last Saturday.
The decision to suspend the league matches is to allow the players to prepare for the end-of-year examinations.
According to the administrative officer of the league, Mr Mulalo Mafenya, the league matches will resume over the weekend of 30 November and 1 December. Mafenya indicated that the suspension of the league activities would not affect the Nedbank Cup programme. He said that teams currently leading their respective streams will play their Nedbank Cup matches mid next month in order to determine the regional champions. The regional champions will play against the other regional winners to determine the team that will represent the province in the last 32 stage of the competition.
During Saturday's meeting, an audited financial statement of the association was presented to the clubs. The presentation of the audited financial statement was in line with the request made by the clubs during a previous meeting, which was held at the Avkhom Hotel two months ago.
According to the budget allocation for the 2013/14 soccer season, R692 000 will be distributed to the teams in the form of prizes at the end of the season. R30 000 has been set aside for the development of women's football, while the same amount will be utilized towards youth development programmes.
