While most Motsepe Foundation Championship League clubs have given their players two to three weeks' rest because of the FIFA break, Black Leopards will continue training as usual.

The league programme for other teams will resume over the weekend of 23 to 25 January next year.

Leopards' head coach, Mr Mabhuti Khanyeza, said the players would have five or six days off between Christmas and New Year, after which training would resume. He added that the team could not take a full festive break while their league future remained uncertain.

Currently bottom of the log with 10 points, one behind Baroka FC, Leopards face the threat of relegation if the standings were final. Khanyeza said the team would play friendly matches to stay match-fit and experiment with winning combinations. He praised the players for quickly adapting to his coaching philosophy and urged supporters not to panic.

The club's chairman, Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela, said there was potential to strengthen the squad with experienced players during the FIFA break.

Black Leopards will begin the new year with an away match against Hungry Lions at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington on Sunday, 25 January.
