Community members in Nzhelele are expected to head to the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court today, where they plan to oppose bail for a man accused of murdering his wife in a case that has left the area reeling.
Rendani Davhana (32) is due to return to court for the continuation of his bail application after proceedings were delayed on 2 April to allow for the verification of his fingerprints.
He faces a murder charge linked to the death of his wife, Unarine Raphulu (28), who was found dead inside her home in Tshirolwe village on 28 March. The circumstances surrounding her death are believed to be related to domestic violence.
Anger has been building within the community, with residents voicing concern over the nature of the allegations and the broader issue of violence against women. Some have indicated their intention to attend court as proceedings continue.
Davhana reportedly handed himself over to police following the discovery of Raphulu’s body.
Raphulu was buried on Saturday, 4 April, in Tshirolwe, and she leaves behind three young children.
