Nzumbululo Todani (18) from Mbilwi Secondary School in Sibasa has been named the top learner in Limpopo. The announcement was made by Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule Ramakhanya during a ceremony at the Ranch Hotel outside Polokwane on 14 January.
Todani achieved seven distinctions, in mathematics, physical science, life sciences, geography, Tshivenda, life orientation, and English first additional language.
When asked about the secret behind his outstanding performance, Todani attributed his success to time management, discipline, and hard work. He also credited the grace of God for his achievements.
He expressed gratitude for the support he had received from his teachers and parents, saying it had played a crucial role in his success. "It was not easy, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents, teachers, members of the school-governing body, and everyone who supported me through my studies," he said.
Todani advised other learners to find successful people as role models. "Having role models in life usually helps a person to draw a picture of where they want to be in the future," he explained.
Todani plans to study mechatronics at the University of Cape Town this year.
His proud mother, Ms Avhasei Nndwamato, described her son as a bookworm. "He is the first member of our family to achieve this, and we are so proud of him. I know he is intelligent, but he still puts in a lot of hard work, and he is very dedicated. He spent most of his time doing schoolwork and also helped other learners with their studies," she said.
Todani also had words of encouragement for learners who did not succeed. He urged them to work hard and not give up. "They must cut down on going out to parties. Watching TV does not help, especially when it's not educational," said the soft-spoken Todani.
