Police have confirmed that one suspect was arrested in connection with the killing of a lion at the Ingogo Safaris Game Lodge, near Alldays.
The suspect, aged 31, was arrested and all four paws and the head of the slaughtered lion were recovered.
According to the head of Limpopo's police communication office, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the police are still searching for three other suspects also linked to the case.
He confirmed that the suspect in custody will appear in court soon.
The Limpopo Police are looking for the suspect(s) responsible for the killing of a white lion in the Alldays area.
Apart from the slaughtered lion, the unknown suspect(s) also attempted to kill two other lions on the Ingogo Safari's Game Lodge near Alldays.
According to the Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the lion was discovered yesterday (31 January) morning on the lodge. The head and paws had been removed.
"The suspect(s) appear to have been disturbed as they also attempted to remove the skin but failed," said Mojapelo.
He added that it is suspected that poisoned chicken meat was thrown in the lions' enclosure. "The other two lions were only incapacitated due to the effect of the poison, but the white lion unfortunately died," said Mojapelo.
A veterinarian was called to treat the two surviving lions.
At this stage the suspect(s) is still at large and police investigations are continuing. Anyone with information relevant to the case is requested to contact their nearest police station.
