One person has been arrested on Wednesday (16 November) for his invovlvement in the matric mathematics question-paper scandal.

This follows Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga's announcement early this week that arrests could be imminent.

According to the minister Grade 12 pupils from the Giyani High School, implicated in the leak of the paper, had confessed to having shared it beforehand on WhatsApp.

Motshekga made this announcement during a press briefing on Monday. According to the minister, the investigators tracked the information provided by the pupils and this indicated that paper had been leaked from Gauteng to Limpopo.

She added that preliminary investigations indicated that a learner from Gauteng had sent the paper to a learner from the Giyani school, seeking the solutions to the paper. She said other learners from the school had also come forward and admitted to having received the question paper from a WhatsApp chat group.
