Phophi Ramaleba, in partnership with the Punda Maria Art Community Youth Centre, is presenting the first Vhembe online art and photography exhibition. The online exhibition is to be officially launched on Saturday (5 September).
The aim of the online exhibition is to encourage artistic expressions, specifically focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic. Artists are invited to express themselves on issues such as social distancing, quarantine, and the fight against the virus. This can be done through paintings or through photography. A selection of the artists' best works will be exhibited in the online gallery.
The 21-year-old Ramaleba explained that this was a perfect opportunity for young people to hone their artistic skills. She herself studied electrical engineering and public administration, but photography remained a passion. "Through photography I believe I can bring about change in the lives of youths," she said.
Speaking to Limpopo Mirror, Mwanda Ndou, a representative of the Punda Maria Arts Community Youth Centre and Ramaleba's mentor, said that the objective of the online exhibition was to promote art and encourage artists to express their feelings and ideas through their art.
Ndou mentioned that an opportunity existed for five beginners to be trained in the art of painting. The sessions will be conducted by Thabo Modillane from Madombidzha. The online exhibition will commence next week, and the free beginners painting/drawing course will take place during the first week.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to submit their theme-based art revolving around emotions, ideas, and thoughts on Covid-19. They can send high-resolution photographs (up to a maximum of 10Mb) of their artwork to ramalebaphophi@gmail.com.
