Passenger dies on repatriation bus leaving Musina

A Malawian man died on Sunday night while travelling by bus from Musina Temporary Repatriation Centre towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry. The bus returned to the centre after the man's death, which occurred approximately 15 kilometres into the journey. Police are preparing a statement regarding the incident.

A Malawian man died while travelling on a bus transporting migrants from the Musina Temporary Repatriation Centre to the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Sunday night. The buses had been scheduled to transport migrants to Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Limpopo Department of Home Affairs provincial manager Albert Matsaung said there had been no reported problems when passengers boarded the buses and they departed from the centre. However, at about 22:30, one of the buses unexpectedly returned. He said the driver had turned back after travelling about 15 kilometres from the facility.

According to Matsaung, information received from the driver and passengers travelling with the deceased indicated that he died while the bus was en route to Beitbridge.

“The individual did not pass away at the centre; rather, he died while on the way to the port of entry,” said Matsaung.

Vhembe police spokesperson Captain Vuledzani Dathi said the provincial police office was preparing a media statement on the incident.
