Last Saturday was pay day for the clubs affiliated to the Mutale Local Football Association (MLFA). About R130 000 was distributed between the 55 clubs during a ceremony at the Tshixwadza Apostolic Faith Mission Church.

Last Saturday was pay day for the clubs affiliated to the Mutale Local Football Association (MLFA). About R130 000 was distributed between the 55 clubs during a ceremony at the Tshixwadza Apostolic Faith Mission Church.

The league's overall champions, Lurangwe the Angels, went home with R7 000 and a floating trophy. The team also received another R3 000 for finishing as runners-up in the top-eight competition.

Matshena Hungry Lions received the biggest cheque - R5 000 - for taking part in the champ-of-champs tournament, R5 000 for being the top eight-competition champions and another R1 000 for reaching the semifinal stage of the league's knockout competition.

Madzivhanani FC, the runners-up in the champ-of-champs tournament, were presented with R5 700, while the third-placed Tshenzhelani FC took home a cash prize of R5 000. During the ceremony it was confirmed that the four teams that finished on top in their respective streams, Lurangwe the Angels, Madzivhanani FC, Tshenzhelani FC and Matshena Hungry Lions, will be campaigning in the SAB League when the activities for the new season start next month.

Two referees, Messrs Ntsedzeni Phaswana and Mukhodeni Munyai, received R750 each. They were nominated as the most improved referees last season.

During the ceremony the league's sponsor, Mr Moudy Mudzielwana, appealed to both the clubs officials and match officials to refrain from corrupt activities. He presented a cheque of R50 000 to the Mutale Local Football Association during the ceremony.

The mayor of Mutale Local Municipality, Cllr Sarah Rambuda, praised the sponsors for channeling some funds towards the development of amateur football in the Mutale area, and the president of Safa Vhembe, Mr George Kubayi, praised the MLFA for their good financial administration.
