Mabvete Peace Makers were crowned the champions of the Funanani Ndou Attorneys Soccer Tournament at the Madimbo Siawoadza Grounds on Sunday. They beat Madimbo Royal Eagles 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy. The winner was determined through a penalty shootout after a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
Mabvete Peace Makers' journey to the final went through Saudi FC, whom they defeated 4-0 in their quarter-final match. They went on to beat Masea Try Again 2-1 in the semi-final stage. Madimbo Royal Eagles defeated Malale D Boys 2-0 in their opening game on Saturday. Their semi-final game was against Madimbo FC, whom they defeated 3-1 to secure a place in the final.
Eight teams from Madimbo and the surrounding areas participated in the tournament. The teams that took part in the two-day event were Madimbo FC, Madimbo Royal Eagles, Masea Try Again, Malale D Boys, Madimbo Liada Vuluvulu, Makuya Try Again, Mabvete Peace Makers, and Domboni Sunshine FC.
The winners, Peace Makers, received R5,000, a soccer kit, a floating trophy, and gold medals during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final game.
The runners-up, Madimbo Royal Eagles, were awarded R2,500, a soccer kit, and silver medals. The third-placed team, Masea Try Again, went home with R1,000 and a soccer kit, while the team that finished in fourth place, Madimbo FC, was given R1,000.
