This weekend marks the beginning of the annual Petrus Madzuhe Soccer Tournament. Twelve teams will take part in the event and all matches will be staged at the Maranzhe Hungry Lions' grounds.
The teams that will battle it out for the championship are: Mukumbani Shooting Stars, Edson Muraida FC, Matondoni Home Sweepers, Tshambobvu Junior Aces, Thohoyandou Development, Itsani United FC, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, Tshilapfene Sporting Arsenal, Dolphins FC, Phandulaluvalo FC, Voweto Maximum Force and the hosts, Maranzhe Hungry Lions.
Three matches will be played tomorrow. The fixtures are: Maranzhe Hungry Lions vs Itsani United FC (11:00), Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions vs Mukumbani Shooting Stars and Phandulaluvalo FC vs Tshilapfene Sporting Arsenal.
Sunday's fixtures are: The Dolphins FC vs Matondoni Home Sweepers (11:00), Tshambobvu Junior Aces vs Thohoyandou Development (13:00) and Edson Muraida FC vs Voweto Maximum Force (15:00).
According to one of the organizers for the tournament, Mr Calvin Sihwili, who doubles up as the sponsor, this year's champions will become R5 000 richer and will also receive a floating trophy and soccer kit. The runners-up will take home R2 500 and the third-placed team R2 000. The team that will finish in the fourth position will be given R1 650.
Individual awards will be presented to the best player in the tournament, best goalkeeper and top goal scorer. The final will be played on Sunday, 10 July.
