Young Pfariso Singo (16) from Shayandima is winning herself quite the fanbase with her artistic skills. Give her a pencil and piece of paper, and she produces the most fascinating drawings.
The 11th-grader at Mbilwi High says that drawing is an essential part of her life that she cannot live without. "To me, art is more than just a pastime. Since I was a little girl, I loved to draw, and as I grew older, it just became a part of me," she says.
Pfariso is versatile regarding art and uses different mediums and textures to express herself through her artwork. She says that, to create beautiful art, one needs patience, discipline, imagination and creativity. "Faces tell stories. When you take a good look at the lines, texture and tones in someone's face, you find a story behind it. I want to capture that."
Speaking in a strong, decisive voice that resonates confidence too, the young artist says she wants to show people that God's gifts can take them somewhere in life, if they only use it to the full. "My artwork completes me. I push myself and make a habit of the creative talent given to me. I also help other learners at my school with their projects."
Pfariso says she would not trade her love of art for anything in the world. She dreams of seeing her work put up in a museum one day. "My biggest dream is owning my own art gallery and showcasing my artwork around the world."
