Drawing has always been 21-year-old Phindulo Mutsila's favourite hobby. This gifted young artist from Maniini started drawing portraits of his relatives and friends at the age of nine, and his technique developed into a truly fine art over the years.

Phindulo said that, since schooling had never been his strongest point and his passion really lay with the arts, he wanted to commercialise his artistic creativity and make a career of it.

His unique style, a combination of realistic and abstract art, is already known and appreciated by many local art lovers. To create his exceptional artwork, he uses mediums such as charcoal, pastels, acrylics and graphite pencils. His proudest achievement thus far was when prominent Venda artist Avhashoni Mainganye saw one of his pieces and reposted it on Instagram.

Phindulo matriculated at Mbilwi Secondary School in 2018 and enrolled at the University of Venda (Univen) in 2019 to study environmental health science, but he dropped out a year later when he realised that he was not going to make it academically.

"Dropping out from the university in 2020 made me concentrate more on my real passion – art. Slowly but surely my work started to capture more and more people's attention, and I am now making ends meet through it. I am truly grateful for the support I get. Creating art is and always will be the one thing that makes me happy," he said.
