Ndweleni Murovhi, known as Phonik the DJ, released a new single earlier this month. The new song, titled Stallion Girl, moves effortlessly between Amapiano house styles into a hybrid of deep house jazz.
The song is a collaboration of the Primetainment crew, featuring Small Tee. "The message of the song is based on the things that are currently happening now in our daily lives, where a girl is using her boyfriend. This song is from an extended album comprising seven tracks that I am currently working on," said Murovhi.
Born and bred in a family of musicians, Phonik the DJ only joined the music fraternity six years ago. "Growing up in a family where there are music instrumentals made me fall in love with music," said the man who grew up in Muraleni in the Sinthumule area.
He maintains that he is an example of how one must never abandon your dreams, no matter how tough the journey is. "I used to play without any payment. I had to pay for all my own expenses, but I didn't lose hope and I kept on pushing until now," he said.
Phonik the DJ reckons his motivation comes from local DJ and internationally renowned producer Black Coffee. "I was inspired by musicians like DJ Black Coffee, and I hope to share a stage with him, because he played a tremendous role in my music career. I want my name to be a big brand in South Africa and abroad," he said.
His music can be accessed on digital platforms such as YouTube and he can be reached on 072 676 3245.
