Police believe man known as Marubini holds the key to murder mystery

Three years after Mpho Mamphaga's brutal murder, police are seeking a man named Marubini, who may possess crucial information. Investigators are intensifying efforts to solve this high-priority case and urge the public to provide any tips.

It has been three years since 60-year-old Mr Mpho Winnet Mamphaga was brutally murdered in his Miluwani Unit C home, and his killers have yet to be caught. Police now believe a man known only as Marubini may hold the key to solving the case.

On 26 December 2023, Mamphaga was found lying on his back with multiple stab wounds and an electric cable wrapped around his neck, a scene that horrified the community. Since then, the investigation has gone cold.

Despite no arrests, provincial police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said the case remains a high priority. “This murder shocked the entire community. We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice,” he said, urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.

Investigators have intensified efforts, with Marubini now the central figure in the probe. He is believed to hold critical information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. Sources say he worked for the deceased.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Aluwani Matamela, on 071 600 9851, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, submit tips via the MySAPS App, or visit their nearest police station.
