MUSINA – Musina police have arrested two of its own members on charges of corruption.

According to Capt Ailwei Mashavhanamadi, police spokesperson for the Vhembe Area, Inspector Johannes Nkawane (33) from the Musina Crime Prevention Unit and Sergeant Edwin Bugana (32) from the Musina Criminal record Centre were arrested, following an incident on October 27 in Nancefield.

It is alleged that the two officials were on patrol at Weipe when they apprehended four illegal foreigners (three females and one male). While escorting them back to the police station for deportation, it is alleged that Nkawane and Bugana stopped the police vehicle in Nancefield and demanded money from the four suspects for their release. The four managed to pay R1 500 and were released.

Unfortunately for the two policemen, the matter was reported to the Anti-Corruption Unit. Nkawane and Bugana were arrested and an identification parade was held on November 3 during which they were positively identified by the four illegal foreigners.
