Police clamp down on local crimes

Police have arrested 15 suspects as part of their provincial crime clean-up operations.

Police have arrested 15 suspects as part of their provincial crime clean-up operations.

On Wednesday, 5 April, they arrested a 32-year-old suspect at Tshaulu Village outside of Thohoyandou. It is suspected that the suspect might be connected to several business robberies. Police have also seized an illegal 9mm firearm, ammunition and cash in the amount of R4 030 that was found in the man's position.

At the Groblersbrug border post four more suspects en route to Zimbabwe via Botswana, were arrested and charged with the possession of suspected stolen vehicles and the illegal possession of dagga. The ages of the suspects are between 26 and 41.

According to the police a white Mercedes Sprinter, a silver Mercedes Benz and several bags containing dagga were recovered and seized during the arrest.

Six more suspects were arrested in Ohrigstad in connection with the murder of taxi driver, and four suspects in Polokwane for selling liquor without a licence.
