As part of their clean-up operations the police in Musina arrested four suspects who were allegedly found with explosives in their vehicle.
According to provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the police acted on a tip-off regarding a white Toyota Quantum parked near a local petrol station. "The police reacted swiftly, arrested the suspects and recovered a black plastic bag," said Ngoepe.
Inside the bag the police discovered five blasting cartridges and five safety copper fuses.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 36, were arrested on a charge relating to the illegal possession of explosives. They were expected to appear before the Messina Magistrate's Court during the course of this week.
A further 30 suspects were arrested as part of this particular operation in the Giyani, Seshego, Thohoyandou, Vaalwater, Mphephy, Lephalale and Tzaneen policing areas.
The police recovered five illegal firearms with live rounds of ammunition, nine computers, sachets of drugs and dagga and nine cell phones.
On Monday evening, the police also confiscated several bags of the CAT drug with an estimated street value of R46 300 in the Westernburg area outside of Polokwane. A 34-year-old suspect was also arrested.
