Police Inspector Freddy Mashamba (43), who allegedly brutally killed his estranged wife at the Makhado Police Station in Louis Trichardt in May this year, briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for a bail application.
Mashamba, who is attached to the Bandelierkop Police Station, allegedly shot Ms Rudzani Ramano (30) several times on Thursday, May 29. The magistrate, Adv Netshifhefhe, postponed the case to August 14. Mashamba remains in custody.
When Ramano was killed, her divorce was said to be about to be finalized.
While the court was in session, members of the Vleifontein community protested outside the court. Members of the Samson Phophi Branch of the ANC officially handed a memorandum to Adv George Mphanama of the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court.
The memorandum in position of Mirror read as follows:
We, the ANC Samson Phophi Branch staged a march to register our total dismay at the atrocity committed by Inspector Freddy Mashamba. We wish to continue to oppose the granting of bail based on the fact that: "We view the incident as first degree murder. No remorse was shown by the perpetrator. The community is very angry and still reeling with shock, therefore his safety is not guaranteed outside.
