The police in Thohoyandou are searching for a man who had allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death at Hamagidi village, near Thohoyandou, on Sunday, 3 September. The incident occurred at about 22:40.

Acting Vhembe SAPS spokesperson Sgt Vuledzani Dathi said the police had received a report informing them that a woman, identified as Ridodzula Mudzanani (19) from Mbaleni village, had been stabbed at Hamagidi. On the police's arrival, emergency medical personnel were busy attending to the victim, who was certified dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mudzanani was with a male friend of hers when they ran into her ex-boyfriend, Azwinndini Richard Mamali (27). Minutes later, Mudzanani was allegedly heard screaming that she had been stabbed, and the suspect (Mamali) fled the scene.

According to a source close to the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Mudzanani and Mamali had been living as husband and wife and had two children together but separated when Mamali found out that Mudzanani was having an affair with another man. He said the former couple had had a heated argument the day before the incident, right after they had attended a court hearing at the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court where Mudzanani had tried to obtain a protection order against Mamali.

The suspect is still at large, and police investigations continue. Dathi urged members of the community who might know anything about the suspect's whereabouts to come forward.
