Police in Hlanganani are searching for stock theft suspects, after they were called to investigate the discarded remains of slaughtered cattle outside Giyani early on Monday morning (3 July).

According to provincial police spokesperson, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, a passer-by noticed the remains hanging in the bushes near Masakona village and notified the police.

When the police arrived at the scene they found a group of residents surrounding a vehicle with a GP registration number. Inside the vehicle were nine cattle heads and some pieces of meat.

"By that time the community members have already damaged the vehicle with unknown objects after the suspects had fled the scene on foot," said Ngoepe.

The owner of the cattle has not yet been identified, and anyone who can help with information regarding this are requested to contact the police.

Residents who have information that can assist the police are urged to contact Col Alpheus Mokale at Tel 082 565 6524.
