The police in Limpopo have launched a search for a middle aged woman who allegedly stole a 5-month-old baby girl from a suburb outside Modjadjiskloof.
According to the provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the unknown woman arrived at the house of the baby's mother on Tuesday, requesting accommodation for the night. She allegedly told the mother that she is from Zimbabwe.
On Wednesday, when the mother returned from a local supermarket, she found both her baby and the woman missing.
The police's preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was last seen boarding a taxi from Modjadjiskloof destined for Louis Trichardt. "The woman later got off the taxi, as it was not getting full and went to a hiking spot," said Ngoepe.
The woman was wearing a purple towel and a pink short sleeved T-shirt. She has short hair, is of average height and speaks Sepedi.
Anybody with information that can assist the police in their search is urged to phone Col Cecil Machimana at Tel 082 451 7181, their nearest police station or the crime stop number at Tel 08600 10111.
