After more than two decades away from the music spotlight, veteran disco musician Sendani Moses Dagada, popularly known as Potilo, has made a triumphant return with a brand-new EP.
The EP, titled Tshikosi, features tracks such as Back to Life, Potilo and Abantu. Produced by ace producer Mpho Majiga and recorded at Maybach Records, the project was officially released last week.
The artist, who built a loyal following during the 1990s and early 2000s, said his return was inspired by his enduring passion for music and the unwavering support he continued to receive from fans over the years.
“Music never left me,” said Potilo. “The melodies and messages remained alive in my heart. I realised that the gift of music is meant to be shared with people,” he added.
Born in Guyuni Harambuda outside Thohoyandou, Potilo established himself as one of the region’s respected musical talents through a blend of pop, gospel, disco and electronic dance music.
Known by many as the “Dan Tshanda lookalike” because of his resemblance to the late disco icon, Potilo said the comparison helped introduce him to wider audiences while motivating him to develop his own unique identity as an artist.
After stepping away from the music industry around 2000, Potilo focused on family life, deepening his faith and pursuing farming. He describes those years as a period of personal growth that taught him patience, resilience and discipline.
Now, after more than 20 years, he has returned with a fresh project that combines the classic disco sound his fans remember with modern production and contemporary arrangements. The EP carries themes of hope, gratitude, faith and perseverance.
His manager and wife, Ms Livhuwani Mphilo Dagada, expressed confidence that the new release will mark a successful comeback.
“We are impressed with the final product and we can assure our fans that the good old times are back,” she said.
