Rotshidzwangae Mabonyane, a promising young actress and scriptwriter from Vhufuli, released her debut Tshivenda movie, titled "Bono Langa lo Kwashea", on 21 July of this year. The movie, filmed near Matatshe at Ha-Makhuvha village, sheds light on the challenges young individuals face when they make poor choices.
The 25-year-old Rotshidzwa, who also directed the film, delves into weighty social issues such as teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, and women's abuse. The narrative follows a bright learner from an underprivileged family who becomes involved with an older man for financial support. However, she ends up pregnant, and the man hampers her educational pursuits.
Despite facing challenges as a young filmmaker, particularly budget constraints, Rotshidzwa remains determined. She explains that making a movie without sufficient funds can be daunting, requiring resourcefulness such as renting equipment and seeking locations from community members. Her motivation lies in her passion for acting and her desire to showcase her talents. She welcomes potential sponsors to support her endeavours.
Rotshidzwa advises aspiring scriptwriters, actors, and actresses from disadvantaged backgrounds to start with the resources they have at hand.
The movie "Bono Langa lo Kwashea" is now available for streaming on YouTube.
