Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela (39) of the Makhado Municipality and her two friends, local businessman Harold Muswobi (50) and Khathutshelo Matshusa (33), appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court last Friday on charges that they had violated the lockdown regulations.

The three people were apparently present at the house where a party was held in April during the level-5 lockdown period.

Mamorobela was captured on video while allegedly visiting some friends. In the video, she can be seen holding a bottle of liquor while dancing. The Democratic Alliance laid criminal charges against her at the Makhado Police Station.
The three were released on bail of R1 000 each. Their case was postponed to 15 June for further investigations.

Mamorobela also appeared before the ANC's Vhembe Region for violating the lockdown regulations and the members recommended that she be suspended temporarily. A resolution was taken that Mamorobela should recuse herself from all activities of the municipality with immediate effect, until the matter is finalized by the court.

The prosecutor, Mr Bethuel Makhado, requested the court to appoint a neutral prosecutor, because he did not want to proceed with the case. The three were represented by Adv Desmond Mphaphuli.

During the council meeting on Monday at the Makhado Council Chamber, the cases of the two councillors who had allegedly violated the lockdown regulations, Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela and DA councillor Bessie Jones, were discussed. Jones was arrested during the distribution of food parcels, together with Mr Hanyani Mthombeni (29) and Mr Gerson Siphuma (45).
