A Grade 7 pupil of El Baruch Academy at Levubu, Radzambo Matsila, performed well and ended in second position during the All Africa Student Convention (AASC) competition held at Eunice High School in Bloemfontein earlier this month.
He will represent Africa in the USA next year.
The AASC is an annual event where pupils from across Africa and Scandinavia come to compete in events in various categories, among others academics, arts, sport, music, speech, drama and dance.
AASC can be described as a mini Olympics for pupils in schools using the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) system and Christian schools. Pupils who excel in their events are elected to attend the International Student Convention (ISC), which is held in the USA once a year.
The principal of El Baruch Academy, Mr Craig Whitcomb, said that the school was very proud of the pupil "and we have no doubt that he will represent us well in the USA. Through their activities, he has taught us that culture can give people a connection to certain social values, beliefs, religions, and customs. This allows him to identify with others of similar mindsets and backgrounds."
He also applauded Radzambo for his achievement and that he had put the name of the school on the international map.
