In a bold musical declaration of purpose and perseverance, rising reggae artist Ras Canly has teamed up with legendary musician Colbert Mukwevho for a powerful new single titled The Sky is the Limit.

Set for release on Youth Day, 16 June, the track is more than just a song — it is a movement aimed at inspiring resilience and vision, especially among the youth. The collaboration brings together two generations of artistry and consciousness, blending soulful instrumentation with spiritually charged lyrics.

In this interview, Ras Canly reflects on the story behind the song, the creative journey shared with Mukwevho, and what lies ahead as he prepares for the release of his upcoming album on Nelson Mandela Day.

Q: What inspired the title and message behind The Sky is the Limit?
A: The title is a declaration of hope. It's about reminding people — especially the youth — that no dream is too big. Life can be tough, but if you stay focused and positive, the sky truly is the limit.

Q: How did the collaboration with Colbert Mukwevho come about?
A: I didn't approach him directly. He has a great relationship with Adziambei Music Academy, and I've always dreamed of working with him. One day, the Chairman walked into the studio while I was playing the song. I expressed my wish to have Colbert on it, though I didn't feel confident enough to approach him myself because of the high level of respect I have for him. The Chairman simply said, "Let thy will be done," and made it happen. After linking us up, he stepped back and let us create freely. I already had a version of the song, but Colbert said, "Let us build it together." That's when the journey began.

Q: What was the creative process like — how did you approach writing and producing this track?
A: The track was written with intention and emotion. Once the collaboration was confirmed, we restructured the song to suit both our styles. It was organic and spiritually guided — one of those moments you don't force, you just flow.

Q: What unique elements did Mukwevho bring into the single, musically or spiritually?
A: His presence alone brought wisdom and depth. Spiritually, he gave the track weight. Musically, his voice, message and legacy added a richness I couldn't have achieved on my own.

Q: How does this single differ from your previous releases such as One in a Million?
A: It reflects maturity and growth. The effort that went into this single — emotionally and technically — is on another level. This one carries a deeper message.

Q: What message are you hoping fans take from this track?
A: That no matter how hard things get, there's always a way forward. It's about resilience, vision and faith. It's especially powerful for the youth — it's a reminder that their dreams are valid.

Q: Can you talk us through the vibe and sound — what can listeners expect sonically?
A: As musicians, we bring rhythm, message and entertainment. This one has a unique sound — a rich fusion of reggae with soulful instrumentation. I would say: expect the unexpected, but get ready for a deep, uplifting musical journey.

Q: Was the timing of the release (Youth Day) intentional? If so, how does it tie in with the song's message?
A: Yes, it was intentional; 16 June is a powerful day in South Africa — it marks youth resistance and courage. The message of the song aligns with that: fighting for a better tomorrow. The Sky is the Limit is a tribute to all who keep pushing, regardless of the obstacles.

Q: Are there visuals in the works — a music video, perhaps?
A: A video is definitely part of our plans. We believe visuals will boost this song's message and reach. We're working on something special.

Q: What is next for Ras Canly after this release?
A: An entire reggae album is coming. It's scheduled for release on 18 July — Nelson Mandela Day. Another significant date for a meaningful message.
