Limpopo reggae artist Ras Canly has placed Tshiombo Matangari on South Africa's music map after securing two major honours at the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMA32).
The musician earned a nomination in the Best Reggae Album category for Foreign Exchange and has also been shortlisted among the five nominees for Male Artist of the Year. He joins an impressive field comprising amapiano producer Kabza De Small, pop singer Will Linley, jazz musician Mandisi Dyantyis and maskandi star Mzukulu.
Foreign Exchange has been praised for its conscious reggae sound and uplifting messages. One of the album's standout tracks, The Sky Is the Limit, features legendary Venda musician Dr Colbert Mukwevho, bringing together two generations of artists in a collaboration rooted in African identity and cultural pride.
Ras Canly's double recognition is a significant achievement for Limpopo's creative sector and highlights the growing influence of artists from the province on the national stage. It also reinforces the depth of musical talent emerging from the Vhembe District, where local artists continue to earn recognition alongside some of South Africa's most established performers.
The SAMA32 winners will be announced on 15 August at Sun City.
