Funanani Canly Phalanndwa, widely known as Ras Canly, has once again captivated the music world with his latest EP, My Five-Volume 2.
Hailing from Tshiombo village, the award-winning artist has received immense praise from his dedicated fan base for this five-track offering, which was released on 16 June.
Ras Canly's EP has garnered an overwhelmingly positive response, particularly on platforms such as Spotify. One of the fan-favourite songs from the EP, Hoto sala nyana, is resonating strongly with listeners.
In the creation of this project, Ras Canly collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Mizo Phyll, Ramzeey, and Mu Nwali. The EP embodies his pursuit of establishing his unique identity in music, avoiding imitation and inspiring fellow musicians to create authentic and original works that reflect their own character and style.
Ras Canly has made a name for himself in the music industry through his exceptional artistic skills. With four albums, two EPs, and 12 singles under his belt, he has consistently delivered outstanding musical offerings. His debut album, Mbilu yanga (My Heart), achieved a historic milestone in 2017 when its reggae track, Vhutshilo Ri To Fhana, became the first and only reggae song to win the prestigious Song of the Year award at the Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA).
Continuing his success, Ras Canly's second album, My Pride, earned him the title of Best Male Artist at the TSHIMA awards in 2018. Demonstrating his consistent artistry, both his third album, The Journey (2019), and his fourth album, Hard to Believe (2021), received nominations for the highly coveted Best Reggae Album of the Year award at the South African Music Awards (SAMA).
