Some musicians' careers are shaped by musical families around them, but for Mashudu Ravuluvulu, popularly known as Ravusto, music is a calling. Ravusto was born in Fondwe, Nzhelele, but later relocated to Makwarani outside Thohoyandou. As a young boy, the 33-year-old multi-instrumentalist and his friend, Mr. Godfrey Matamela, would set up old tin cans as drums. His musical talent became evident when, at the age of 15, he was recruited as a choir member for the local Makwarani village choir. He also became an influential and prominent member of the local ZCC choir.
Ravusto performs a wide range of music genres, including reggae, house, R&B, and gospel. He began his professional singing career and recorded his first album, "No Woman no Cry", in 2015. His second album, "Vhutudzi", followed in 2017, and the third album, "Murunwa", was released in 2022.
His upcoming album, "Ro Hangwa Zwashu (Sialala)", is ready and will be released soon. It features powerful tracks, including "Angelina" and the title track, "Ro Hangwa Zwashu (Sialala)". The album, produced by himself, was recorded at R.V.T. Records. "I sing about topical issues, and my lyrics are a way of conveying messages. On my latest album, I aim to raise awareness in the community, especially among the youth, about the importance of preserving our culture. Things are not going well today because we are neglecting our roots. The gods have forsaken us, and we must humble ourselves and return to the basics," he said.
