Local reggae artist Razor Man has been nominated in two categories at the VendShang Awards, which will take place at Lambani on 22 November. The nominations came after his critically acclaimed second album, Muya Mukhethwa ("Holy Spirit"), firmly placed him among the top artists on the local music scene alongside legends such as Colbert Mukwevho and Murida.
Known for his dynamic style and rising influence in the music industry, Razor Man looks destined for greater heights. His first album, Vha Edele nga Mulalo ("Rest in Peace"), released in July 2022, laid a solid foundation for his career. The follow-up, his 12-track Muya Mukhethwa, released in November 2024, has confirmed his place in the premier league of local musicians.
Born Malakia Messiah Nedzamba, he faced considerable hardships early in life. He lost his father, Mr Gidii Nedzamba, at a young age, leaving him and his siblings in the care of their mother, Ms Nkhumeleni Nepfumbada, who struggled to provide for them as she was unemployed. After his mother passed away, their grandmother took over their care.
Faced with the need to fend for himself, Nedzamba left his home village of Thononda for Gauteng, where he met ace producer Davic of Masana Records in Tshiawelo. This encounter marked the beginning of his musical journey.
His producer, Phathutshedzo Khaphathe, known as "Dj Khaphy" of Pro Studio Productions, said his protégé had a bright future ahead.
"Razor Man is destined for greater things. His album is doing very well and has elevated him to the big league," he said. He was confident that Razor Man will do well in the VendShang Awards. "He will also be releasing his new album towards the end of the year or early next year. We are taking everything one step at a time," he said.
