Teams interested in taking part in the Limpopo Women's Soccer Tournament are still welcome to register for the event. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the TJ Healthcare Pharmacy in Sibasa last Saturday.

The managing director of the pharmacy, Mr Musa Maluleke, who is the sponsor, indicated that he had not thought twice when he was approached for sponsorship. He mentioned that as a pharmacist he was concerned about the well-being of society, saying he did not like to see people coming to his pharmacy to buy medication when their illnesses could be prevented by exercising. He stressed the fact that sponsoring sports was the best way to get people away from the doctors.

According to one of the organizers, Mr Rabson Magoro, the first matches will be played over the weekend of 23 and 24 August. Teams not campaigning in the Sasol League will be expected to register their players, while members of the Sasol League will utilize their league registration cards in the tournament.

Magoro, the managing director of Chippas United Ladies FC, further revealed that the Sasol League teams already registered for the tournament are Chippas United, Maindis, Shayandima Morning Stars, Bakone, Tshandama Try Together, Merwe Ladies FC, Botlokwa and Sisters FC.

The winners of the tournament will walk away with R5 000, a soccer ball and a floating trophy, while the runners-up will receive R2 000 and a soccer ball. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive R1 000 and R400 respectively, while the teams booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage will each receive a consolation prize of R150.
