A bus transporting people from KwaZulu-Natal to the repatriation camp at Beitbridge overturned on the N1 near Musina early on Wednesday morning, 1 July. The driver was killed in the crash, while 11 passengers were injured.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said the crash occurred about four kilometres south of the Beitbridge Border Post at around 01:30. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver allegedly lost control of the bus due to fatigue, causing it to overturn.
The injured passengers were transported to Musina Hospital for treatment.
Emergency services, traffic officials and law enforcement officers responded to the scene. The N1 remained open, although temporary closures might be introduced while forensic investigators examined the scene.
The department urged motorists to drive with caution, expect delays and follow the instructions of traffic officials. It said further updates would be provided as more information became available.
