Family and friends are mourning the untimely death of retired radio presenter Makhayinge Ernest Nkanyane (74).
Nkanyane died on Sunday, 17 January, at the Soutpansberg Private Hospital from a Covid-19-related illness.
According to his sister, Winnie Mavundza, he was in the process of building royal council offices in Tiyane at the time of his death.
He joined the SABC in Polokwane in 1978 as a news reader and presenter. In 2003, he moved to Auckland Park in Johannesburg, where he initiated Xitsonga news on television. He retired from the industry in 2006, and then assisted in royal affairs at Tiyani village.
Mavundza said that the family were heart-broken by the loss of their pillar.
Nkanyane is survived by his wife, Anna and eight children. He was buried on Friday, 22 January, under strict Covid-19 protocols.
