The undisputed rhumba king, Joseph Giyani Mbiza, popularly known as Zozo, is set to continue where he left off with the launch of his latest album, Vhana Vha Muthu Volume 19.
The album, which follows the release of his 2024 mega-album, Thavha, will be launched at Exclusive Lifestyle and Events at the Dovheni industrial site on 21 February. The launch will coincide with the musician’s 53rd birthday celebration at the same venue.
For the event, the Zimbabwean-born musician, celebrated for his influence on the Venda rhumba and Sungura music scenes in South Africa, has lined up a mix of local stars and performers from Zimbabwe.
Among them are Xitsonga music sensation Benny Mayengani, reggae icon Dr Colbert Mukwevho, Khosi i sina shango, Khakhathi Murida, and Zimbabwean artists Tendai and Morgen Dembo, the children of the late musician Leonard Dembo.
The Sengere Super Beat star said he was optimistic and energised ahead of the big day.
“This is set to be one of the most momentous days of my life. It is a double header where I will be celebrating my musical achievements while launching my 19th offering. The 11-track album is a throwback where I revisited my roots. In this album, I brought back the good old style that made me very popular in my early releases up to Volume 5,” he said.
Mbiza also features his long-time friend and colleague Mickeyblack on the track Africa. “I also roped in my long-time engineer Jabulani Ndlovu and Dave Segal, who did an incredible job. This is one of my masterpieces and I hope everyone will enjoy it. I promise fireworks,” he said.
