Academic excellence at Ridgeway Independent School outside Louis Trichardt was proven when the results of last year's International Conquesta Olympiads arrived.
Ridgeway ranked first internationally in natural sciences Grade 7, life orientation Grade 2 and Afrikaans second language Grade 6.
"Schools that enter this international Olympiad mostly include elite private and government schools. We were ranked among the top 20 in all learning areas," said the principal, Ms Magriet Swanepoel.
English first language Grade 6 took a second place in the Olympiad and computer studies Grade 5 a third place. The other learning areas that ranked between the fourth and the eighteenth place were Grade 2 numeracy and English literature, Grade 4 natural sciences, computer studies and Afrikaans second language, Grade 5 natural sciences and English first language and Afrikaans second language, Grade 6 mathematics and computer studies and Grade 7 mathematics, computer studies and Afrikaans second language.
Thirteen junior phase pupils among the Grade 1 to 3s were best achievers in numeracy, literacy and life skills. In the senior phase, five pupils were best achievers in mathematics, English, Afrikaans and natural sciences.
"I want to congratulate all the teachers and pupils on their excellent results. I am very proud and hope that we can maintain this excellent standard in the 2010 International Conquesta Olympiad," said Swanepoel.
