Tshakhuma RO United were crowned the champions for the annual Amos Charity Shield Soccer Tournament at the Levubu Rugby Stadium on Saturday. This after they beat FC KK 1-0 in the final.
RO United received R15 000, gold medals, a floating trophy, soccer kit and soccer balls after the game. The runners-up, FC KK, took home R13 000, a soccer kit, silver medals and soccer balls. R10 000 was presented to the third-placed side, Joe Maweja. Maweja beat Tshakhuma Na Ndilani 2-1 in their losers' final match at the same venue earlier that day.
The champions in the U/15 category, Yebo Yes FC, were presented with R6 000, gold medals, soccer balls and a floating trophy. Yebo Yes beat Tshakhuma Young Tigers 1-0 at the same venue earlier that day.
The captain of Yebo Yes, Oscar Nemavhulani, was nominated as the best player of the tournament in the U/15 category. The other individual award winners are: Unarine Mashavha of Young Tigers (best keeper), Maboho Nevari of Yebo Yes (most disciplined player) and Mpfariseni Ligivha of Shooting Stars (top goal scorer).
The individual award winners in the open category are: Rendani Mavhungu of FC KK (most disciplined player), Lavhelesani Mukomafhedzi of RO United (best player in the tournament) and Mashudu Mukhari of Joe Maweja (top goal scorer). Eight teams took part in the open category this year.
During the ceremony, a representative of the sponsors, the Nemaxwi Foundation, Mr Mulalo Thabela, indicated that they will continue to sponsor the tournament in coming years. According to him the sponsorship will increase from time to time. Several former professional players, including Pollen Ndlanya and Benedict Vilakazi, attended the event.
