A 47-year-old business owner from Manini village near Thohoyandou was gunned down by unknown assailants in front of his business premises in Mangondi village on Monday night.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the victim, Victor Ramukumba, was allegedly sitting inside his car, parked in front of Mangondi Eating House and Bottle Store, which he owned. He was apparently waiting to transport his employees home when an unknown number of suspects emerged from the darkness and opened fire on him. The incident occurred at about 21:00.
"The two employees reportedly took cover when several gunshots were being fired at Ramukumba. The suspects thereafter fled the scene without taking anything. The police were called and, upon arrival at the scene, Ramukumba was found with several bullet wounds and certified dead by the emergency medical services (EMS)," Mojapelo said.
The motive for the killing is still unknown at this stage and anyone who can assist the police with information about the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Maanda Sumbana, on 072 267 7346. Alternatively, they can call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, use the MySAPS app, or go to their nearest police station.
Family spokesperson and younger brother of the deceased Mr Mpfumedzo Ramukumba said that they were still to decide on a date for his burial, but it might be Saturday, 30 October.
