SABC Livhu back in court

Comedian Livhuwani Madadzhe (31), popularly known as SABC Livhu, will now have to wait until next year to hear a verdict on his charges.

Comedian Livhuwani Madadzhe (31), popularly known as SABC Livhu, will now have to wait until next year to hear a verdict on his charges.

Madadzhe appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of contravening the National Road Safety Act. The case was postponed to 21 January 2021 and his bail of R1 500 was extended.

Madadzhe was arrested on Saturday, 31 October this year, at Thavhani Mall in Thohoyandou. In a statement released shortly after his arrest, Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe said that traffic officials had been busy conducting their daily duties at Mphephu Drive when they had spotted a silver Audi A4 motor vehicle without number plates. The vehicle had flashing emergency lights and was blocking the road while apparently escorting certain vehicles.

The traffic officers apparently tried to stop Madadzhe's car, but "the driver didn't stop; instead, he drove at high speed towards Thavhani Mall".

Limpopo Mirror asked a local legal expert, Advocate Mpho Nefuri of Nefuri Attorneys, what Madadzhe could expect if the court ruled that he had broken the law. She said that an offense of this nature would likely end with the perpetrator's getting a fine, a suspended sentence, or his license might even be suspended.

"It usually depends on circumstances," Nefuri said. The guilty person might even receive a jail sentence of three months, but this is unlikely because mitigating circumstances might come into play. "It is rare for a person to be imprisoned for such an offense," Nefuri said.
