A 41-year-old SACM (South African Custodial Management) officer from the Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre appeared in the Louis Trichardt magistrates court on 27 June on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and rape.
The accused allegedly produced a firearm and threatened to shoot the victim after his demand for sex was refused. He then allegedly raped her on the night of 23 June in Louis Trichardt. The victim went to the police and reported the case. The suspect was later arrested.
According to SA Police Service's, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the accused was granted bail of R5 000 at his court hearing on 2 July. He will appear again on 17 July.
Sources stated that he has been suspended from work pending a disciplinary hearing.
