The SAFA Vhembe Referees Committee has suspended six referees for misconduct during matches held over the past weekend in different areas.
The referees are accused of offences such as allegedly accepting bribes to influence match results, making biased decisions that disrupted games, and overcharging teams in match fees. The match officials were suspended for between four and six matches and will not take part in any matches or officiate during this period.
Madala Kutama has been suspended for four matches for failing to enforce the rules during a game between Daniel Mubva FC and Tshikhwani Stone Breakers. Ronewa Sigebe received a four-match suspension for inappropriate behaviour and misconduct. Felicia Rikhotso was also suspended for four matches for overcharging teams and failing to respect decisions while officiating a match between Shilumane Training Academy and Nditwani Shooting Stars.
Cyril Matela has been suspended for four matches for allegedly soliciting bribes. An investigation into these allegations is ongoing.
In a separate matter, Ronewa Sigebe received an additional six-match suspension for failing to enforce the rules during a match between Buluni Happy Boys and Mahagala Young Stars. Livhuwani Mbasigidi was suspended for four matches for failing to properly officiate a match between Ramantsha Blackpool and Matika FC.
SAFA Vhembe secretary Sam Matodzi warned referees against accepting bribes or influencing match outcomes. He said those found guilty of misconduct or failing to apply the rules of the game will face suspension.
