Mukula Young Santos became the new Mathacs tournament's champions when they beat Mukula Ghetto Boys 3-1 in the final, played at Tshifudi Stadium on Sunday.
Almost as if they were going to give their opponents a free soccer lesson, Santos were the first to find the net. It took them only five minutes to get the vuvuzelas blowing. Phathutshedzo "Ndoza" Takalani forced his way through the defence of Ghetto and showed the keeper the wrong way. The score was 1-0 when the teams adjourned for half time.
Santos increased the margin in the 56th minute when Thitevhelwi Nembilwi received a brilliant pass from Gudani Tshifhango and beat the keeper with a volley.
Ghetto effected only one change to their starting line-up. They replaced Richardt Munyai with Derick Sikhipha. Santos enjoyed possession for the better part of the last half. Their technical department introduced Shalin Munyamela and Edzisani Makhuvha in the place of Andani Makhadi and Tshimangadzo Managa respectively. A defender of Ghetto handled the ball within his own penalty area seven minutes later. The referee awarded a penalty and Phathutshedzo Takalani scored from the white spot.
Ghetto reduced the deficit when Jacob Ramudzuli scored in the 78th minute to make the score 3-1.
