Schools to reopen despite heavy rains

Despite recent heavy rains, schools in the province will reopen on 8 April as scheduled. The Department of Education debunked a false notice about extended closures, urging everyone to ignore the misleading information.

Learners across the province were expected to return to school on Wednesday, 8 April, despite recent heavy rains that have affected several areas in Vhembe.

The Department of Education has confirmed that schooling will resume as scheduled, dismissing a widely circulated notice claiming that schools would remain closed as false and unauthorised.

In a statement, the department urged parents, learners and educators to ignore the misleading notice, stressing that it was not issued or approved by any official authority.

“Please note that the circulating flyer is fake and not sanctioned by the department. Schooling will resume on Wednesday, 8 April,” said Mr Mike Maringa, spokesperson for the Department of Education in Limpopo.

The clarification comes amid confusion in communities following the sudden rainfall, which raised concerns about safety and access to schools.

While some areas have experienced disruptions, the department indicated that it continues to monitor conditions and will communicate directly with affected schools where necessary.

Parents are encouraged to ensure that learners return to school as planned, while remaining attentive to any official updates issued through recognised communication channels.
