Second consecutive defeat for Rospa United

Rospa United suffered another defeat when they lost 0-1 to Giyani Hotspurs in the Safa second division league match played on Saturday.

Last Saturday saw Rospa United suffer their second consecutive defeat, following their 0-1 loss at the hands of Giyani Hotspurs in their Safa second division league match at the University of Venda Stadium.

United had themselves to blame for the defeat as they squandered numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Spurs' defender, Khulumani Hlungwane, was the first player to be reprimanded with a card. He tackled Oscar Silima the rough way in the ninth minute and the Dzimauli-born referee, Mr Chris Mugeri, took no time before producing yellow. The coach of Hotspurs, Mr Dennis Madzimbane, was forced to effect a change to his starting lineup in the 20th minute. Khulumani Hlungwane sustained a groin injury and was replaced by his brother, Musa.

Khuthadzo Mathivha of United was also booked. He handled the ball intentionally and the referee was lenient enough not to give him his marching orders.

Kenneth Lesia of United caused an upset in the 29th minute. He received a neat pass from Ndumeliso Mabulele within the box and shot upright, much to the disappointment of the team's fans.

Realising that Thulani Masondo's performance was deteriorating with time, Hotspurs replaced him with Amos Malane early in the last half. Malane formed a deadly combination with Douglas Maluleke and Lebogang Tsholo in the middle of the park.

Spurs' much-awaited goal came in the 78th minute. Musa Hlungwane headed home after a corner kick that was taken by Akane Banda. Rospa United tried everything in the book in their search for the equaliser, but it was not their day.
