A severe storm that ripped through parts of the Vhembe region on Thursday afternoon left many families without a roof over their heads.
The strong winds, accompanied by bursts of heavy rains, destroyed houses in several villages.
One of the victims, Mr Freddy Mukwevho, said that he had been staying at Tshitandani village for many years, but has never experienced something like this. He said that he was outside when the storm increased in intensity and he witnessed how the roof of his house was blown off. The sheets of corrugated iron on his roof were completely ripped off by the wind.
The spokesperson of the Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Matodzi Ralushai, said that the victims of the storm would be assisted. The municipality's disaster team would help those who were left without homes. The ward councillors will assist in compiling the reports so that the residents can receive help, he said.
